Maoliosa

about me ✿

Maolíosa Ní Cheallaigh (muh-leesa nee kally) is an Irish artist who works with illustration, comics, and animation. Her characters—a cheeky white cat Binky, a wistful humanoid girl My Lisa, a fragile creature called the Lonely Thing—inhabit soft, strange worlds that feel familiar and slightly off at once. There's tenderness in her work, but also an honest acknowledgment of pain, loneliness, and the difficulty of connection.

She graduated from NCAD with a Higher Diploma in Fine Art and holds a certificate in UX Design from DKIT. Her practice spans illustration, character design, comics, and emerging animation work. She draws from personal experience, Irish landscape, and the impulse to anthropomorphise everything—finding companions in rocks, flowers, and hermit crabs.

Her work is held together by recurring characters and an evolving world that she continues to develop through illustration, sequential art, and short-form video. She is currently building toward longer narrative projects in animation.
